pyramidella . Cerithium . Handmann, 1883b
see Potamides fraterculus (Mayer, 1878)
* Cerithium pyramidella n. f.— Handmann 1883b: 168.
Type material. The holotype of Handmann (1883b) was stored in the Kollegium Kalksburg in Vienna, a Catholic private school, but seems to be lost .
Type locality. Ĥlles ( Austria) .
Stratigraphy. Middle Miocene, Sarmatian (Volhynian).
Discussion. Handmann (1883b: 167) discussed a close similarity with Cerithum hoellesense Handmann, 1883b [= Potamides fraterculus (Mayer, 1878) ] from which his species is distinguished by its more prominent axial ribs and weakly convex whorls. The description suggests that Handmann (1883b) had a specimen of Potamides fraterculus (Mayer, 1878) at hand.
Central Paratethys. Sarmatian, Volhynian (Middle Miocene): Vienna Basin: Ĥlles ( Austria) ( Handmann 1883b).
pyrguloides. Potamides . Andrussow, 1902
see Potamides caspius Andrussow, 1902
* [ Potamides caspius ] var. pyrguloides — Andrussow 1902: 57, pl. 1, fig. 11.
Type material. Lectotype designated herein: Nr. 103/358, illustrated in Andrussow (1902: pl. 1, fig. 11); TSNIGR Museum Saint-Petersburg (see also Malchevskaya 1985).
Type locality. Utva River ( Kazakhstan) .
Stratigraphy. Late Pliocene/Pleistocene, Akchagylian.
Discussion. This taxon is a subjective synonym of Potamides caspius Andrussow, 1902 , representing a morph without beads and with weak spiral sculpture.
Eastern Paratethys. Akchagylian (Late Pliocene/Pleistocene): Caspian Basin: Kizilyurt, Kamyshchai River (Daghestan, Russia) ( Goloubiatnikow 1902); Belaya Rostosh' (near Inder Lake, Atyrau Region), Utva River (West Kazakhstan Region, Kazakhstan) (Davidaschvili 1932; Kolesnikov 1950); Qazanbulaq, Naftalan ( Azerbaijan) ( Ali-Zade 1969); Danata, Small Balkhan, Kopet Dag, Krasnovodsk peninsula ( Turkmenistan) ( Ali-Zade 1967).
