eichwaldi . Cerithium . Hilber, 1882
see Pustulosia submitralis ( Eichwald, 1851)
* Cerithium eichwaldi R. Hoernes und Auinger nova forma — Hilber 1882: 7, pl. 1, figs 12, 13.
Type material. Lectotype designated herein: Geological Survey, Vienna ( Austria), illustrated in Hilber (1882: 7, pl. 1, figs 12a–b). The specimen was stored at the Geological Survey Vienna ( Austria) but seems to have been destroyed during World War II (pers. comm. Irene Zorn, February 2022).
Type locality. Golubytsya ( Ukraine) .
Stratigraphy. Middle Miocene, Badenian.
Discussion. Differs from typical Pustulosia submitralis by the presence of a prominent central spiral cord. This feature is rather variably as documented by the various specimens described as Potamides eichwaldi by Friedberg (1914) and does not justify a separation at species level. Hilber (1882) referred to a name given on labels in the collections of the Natural History Museum, Vienna. Therefore, authorship has to be passed to Hilber (1882).
Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Voronyaky Hills: Golubytsya (Lviv Region, Ukraine) ( Hilber 1882; Friedberg 1914); Polish-Ukrainian Fore-Carpathian Basin: Pidvolochys'k (= Zadniszówka), Zhukivtsi (Ternopil Region, Ukraine) ( Friedberg 1914); Nowy Sącz Basin: Niskowa ( Poland) ( Friedberg 1914); Vienna Basin: Berndorf (St. Veit an der Triesting) ( Austria) ( Mariani & Papp 1966); Oberpullendorf Basin: Ritzing ( Austria) ( Papp 1952); Pannonian Basin: Herend–Márkó ( Hungary).
