* [ Cerithium pictum Bast. View in CoL ] var. elongatum View in CoL — Handmann 1883b: 167.
Type material. The syntypes of Handmann (1883b) were stored in the Kollegium Kalksburg in Vienna, a Catholic private school, but seem to be lost .
Type locality. Ĥlles ( Austria) .
Stratigraphy. Middle Miocene, Sarmatian (Volhynian).
Discussion. Handmann (1883b: 167) distinguished this variety from Cerithium pictum based on its more slender shell. Thus, it represents only one of the many morphotypes of T. pictum .
The name Cerithium elongatum is preoccupied by Anton (1838) and G. B. Sowerby II (1855). As we consider Cerithium elongatum Handmann, 1883b as subjective synonym of Tiaracerithium pictum , no replacement name is needed.
Central Paratethys. Sarmatian, Volhynian (Middle Miocene): Vienna Basin: Ĥlles ( Austria) ( Handmann 1883b).
