costulata. Cerithium View in CoL . Handmann, 1883a [non Lamarck, 1822]
see Pustulosia submitralis ( Eichwald, 1851)
* [ Cerithium Vitense View in CoL ] var. costulata — Handmann 1883a: 172.
Type material. The syntypes of Handmann (1883a) were stored in the Kollegium Kalksburg in Vienna, a Catholic private school, but seem to be lost .
Type locality. Berndorf (St. Veit an der Triesting) ( Austria) .
Stratigraphy. Middle Miocene, Badenian.
Discussion. Handmann (1883a) described this species as variety of Cerithium vitense Handmann 1883a [= Pustulosia submitralis ( Eichwald, 1851) ] with axially arranged beads. We suppose that he had only a morphotype of Pustulosia submitralis at hand. The name Cerithium costulatum is preoccupied by Lamarck (1822). As we consider Cerithium costulatum Handmann, 1883b as subjective synonym of Pustulosia submitralis , no replacement name is needed.
Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Vienna Basin: Berndorf ( St. Veit an der Triesting ) ( Handmann 1883a) .
