danubicum . Cerithium . Ondrejíčková & Seneš, 1965

= Bayania danubica ( Ondrejíčková & Seneš, 1965) (= Pseudomelaniidae View in CoL )

* Cerithium danubicum nov. sp. — Ondrejíčková & Seneš 1965: 173, pl. 3, figs 23–24.

Cerithium danubicum pyramidale nov. ssp. — Ondrejíčková & Seneš 1965: 173, pl. 3, figs 25–26 [non J. Sowerby, 1818].

Cerithium obliteratum Koenen, 1891 — Ondrejíčková & Seneš 1965: 174 [non von Koenen, 1891].

Discussion. The specimens described by Ondrejíčková & Seneš (1965) could be mistaken for Tiaracerithium but differ in their continuous basal aperture, which lacks a siphonal canal. The holotype (SL: 10.0 mm, MD: 3.6 mm) was originally stored in the Geological Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (Bratislava, Slovakia). Later the material was moved to the Slovak Natural History Museum in Bratislava but seems to be lost. A lot of 33 paratypes is still stored Slovak Natural History Museum in Bratislava under the inventory number Z3481. Cerithium danubicum pyramidale Ondrejíčková & Seneš, 1965 represents a juvenile shell with subobsolete beads but agrees well with Bayania danubiuca ( Ondrejíčková & Seneš, 1965) . The name Cerithium pyramidale is preoccupied by J. Sowerby (1818: 61) (spelling in J. Sowerby 1818: Cerithium pyramidalis ). A spire fragment was identified by Ondrejíčková & Seneš (1965) as Cerithium obliteratum von Koenen, 1891 , which was originally described from the Rupelian of the North Sea Basin. It differs from Bayania danubica clearly in its strongly convex whorls (von Koenen 1891: 646, pl. 45, figs 15a–b).

Central Paratethys. Egerian (late Oligocene/Early Miocene): South Slovakian Basin : only known from two samples in the M3 (486 m) and O15 (263m) drillings at Mužla at Štúrovo ( Slovakia) ( Ondrejíčková & Seneš 1965) .
