Calonotos aequimaculatus Zerny, 1931a: 243 . Lectotype hereby designated, male, [ BRAZIL, Pará], Taperinha, with one printed label “Unt. Amaz. Taperinha b. Santarem 1– 10.viii.’27 Zerny” and handwritten label “ Calonotos aequimaculatus Zerny type ♂”. Two paralectotypes, one male and one female. Male with similar labels, differing only in the date, which is “ 21–30.vi. ’27”; female with same data as lectotype.
Current combination. Calonotos aequimaculatus Zerny, 1931 .
Condition of the types. Lectotype. Perfect condition. Paralectotypes. Both male and female in perfect condition.
Remarks. C. aequimaculatus was described from the three specimens found in the NHMW. Zerny (1931a) mentioned that the species differs from all others mentioned in the same work. He compared this species with Calonotus [sic] niger Gaede, 1926 , and according to him, it differs from the latter in the presence of golden-green longitudinal bands on the abdomen. The holotype of C. niger is deposited at the ZMHB, and its examination revealed other characters differing it from C. aequimaculatus , such as the absence of white dots on the frons of C. niger , which also has only one post-discal hyaline spot on the forewings.
Cerda (2008) illustrated both the habitus and the male genitalia of C. aequimaculatus . This author also mentioned that he “arbitrarily regarded females of small size carrying small white spots on the forewings” as females of this species, but provided no illustrations of them.
