Eucereon lychnis Zerny, 1931b: 22 (Taf. 1, fig. 23). Lectotype hereby designated, female: [ BRAZIL], Santa Catarina, Jaraguá (Fr. Hoffmann), with two labels: one printed label “Sta. Catharina, Jaraguá, Fr. Hoffmann ”, on the underside with a handwritten date “ 6.xii. ’29”; and a handwritten label in red ink “ Eucereon lychnis Zerny ♀ type ”. Nine paralectotypes, two males and seven females, deposited at the NHMW, with the same labels as the lectotype, except for the dates: male from 30.ix. [19]29, the other from 26.viii. [19]29; females: one from each of the following dates—“ 4.ii. [19]29”; “ 23.x. [19]29”; “ 24.x. [19]29”; two times “ 21.xii. [19]29”, “ 22.xii. [19]29”; “ 24.xii. [19]29”.
Current combination. Eucereon lychnis Zerny, 1931 .
Condition of the types. Lectotype. Wings slightly rubbed, otherwise in perfect condition. Paralectotypes. Most paralectotypes are in very good condition, but a few have the forewings worn, while one of the females has lost its abdomen.
Remarks. Zerny stated that this species was described from two males and eight females, and all ten were found at the NHMW.
Eucereon lychnis is almost certainly not part of a monophyletic concept of Eucereon (LRP, unpublished data), and its correct generic placement will probably require the creation of a new genus. However, this can only be done in the context of a detailed study of all species (or at least all groups of species) belonging to this genus. E. lychnis is probably closely related to five other species that are also placed in Eucereon : E. rosa (Walker, 1854) , E. rosenbergi Rothschild, 1912 , E. rubroanalis Rothschild, 1912 , E. melanoperas Hampson, 1898 , and E. nigripalpis Gaede, 1926 .
