Monotypic genus represented by M. transitorius ( Hershkovitz 1993) , that inhabits the fringe zone between open grassland and bordering scrubland of the Brazilian Cerrado ( Hershkovitz 1993; Prado & Percequillo 2013; Paresque & Hanson 2015).

Karyotype: 2n = 38 and FN = 46. Autosomal complement: five small pairs of biarmed elements, and 13 acrocentric pairs decreasing in size. Sex chromosomes: X, a large submetacentric; Y, a small submetacentric, as mentioned by Paresque & Hanson (2015).
