Tachyusa (Ischnopoda) longicollis: Scheerpeltz, 1934: 1576 View in CoL .

Ischnopoda longicollis: Pace, 2005:113 View in CoL .

Type material. Lectotype (here designated): ɗ: Abyssinia [ Ethiopia]: DjemDjem Forest [60 km west of Addis Ababa], from river bed, 8.000 ft., 2.X.1926, Dr. H. Scott ( BMNH). Paralectotypes: ɗ, Ψ: same data as lectotype ( BMNH); ɗ: same data as lectotype ( FMNH).

Additional material. Ethiopia: Ilubabor, 24 km NE of Bedelle, 1800 m, under leaf by stream in denuded trop, 15.X.1972, 1 ex ( BMNH); Kaffa, 40 km SW of Jimma Belleta Forest, 2100 m, under conduit in dump ground, 1971, 4 exx ( BMNH and ISEA).

Redescription. Body. Length 2.7–2.9 mm, convex, parallelsided, glossy; body colour brown; elytra brownishred, tergites V–VII black, antennae brown with antennomeres 1–2 red, legs red.

Head circular in outline, convex; eyes relatively large, moderately protruding from lateral contours of head, length of each seen from above subequal to that of postocular region; surface of head without microsculpture; puncturation minute, pinpricklike and dense. Antennae long, extending to 1/2 of elytra, slightly increasing in width apically, antennomere 3 longer than 2, antennomeres 4–10 longer than wide, decreasing in length, antennomere 11 nearly coniform.

Pronotum quadrate, convex, lateral sides sinuately narrowed to obtuse hind angles; before base with relatively large transverse impression; surface without microsculpture; puncturation minute, pinpricklike and sparse; pubescence at midline directed posteriorly in apical half and anteriorly in basal half.

Elytra subquadrate, at suture as long as pronotal length at midline; surface without microsculpture; puncturation minute, pinpricklike and moderately dense.

Abdomen widened posteriorly, bases of tergites III–V each with deep transverse impression, first two impressions coarsely punctate, third impression smooth, impunctate; tergal puncturation fine and dense; surface without microsculpture.

Male. Aedeagus as in Figs. 45–46 View FIGURES 45 – 47 .

Female. Spermatheca as in Fig. 47 View FIGURES 45 – 47 .

Remarks. Ischnopoderona longicollis is very similar to I. brendelli , from which it can be distinguished by the larger eyes, length of each seen from above subequal to that of postocular region (eyes shorter than postocular region in I. brendelli ), the pronotal pubescence at midline directed posteriorly in apical half and anteriorly in basal half (pronotal pubescence directed entirely anteriorly in I. brendelli ), the abdominal basal transverse impression on tergite III impunctate (distinctly, coarsely punctate in I. brendelli ) and by the shape of the aedeagus.

Distribution. Ethiopia (Map 4).

Type material. Holotype: ɗ: Ethiopia: Bale, 3 km W of Dinshu, under stones, XII.1971 ( BMNH). Paratypes: ɗ: Ethiopia: Bale, Adelay Forest, 3100 m, Joniver wood at roots of plants damp slope ( BMNH); 3ɗ ɗ, Ψ: Ethiopia: Arussi, 8 km E of Dighelli, 3000 m, at grass roots by stream ( BMNH); Ψ: Ethiopia: Arussi, 8 km E of Dighelli, 3000 m, at grass roots by stream ( ISEA); ɗ: Ethiopia: Kaffa, 1 km of WoshWosh Village, ca. 1800 m, VII.1971 ( BMNH); ɗ: Ethiopia: Kaffa, 38 km S.W. of Jimma Belleta Forest, 7200 ft., under bark & dead leaves, 1971 ( ISEA); ɗ: Ethiopia: Kaffa, Gtojeb River, 35 km S.W. of Jimma Belleta Forest, in gravelly sand by stream, X.1972 ( ISEA); Ψ: Ethiopia: Simien, Debarec, 9800 ft., from streams with steep earth banks and small falls, 11.XI.1952 ( BMNH).

Description. Body. Length 3.1–3.3 mm, convex, parallelsided, glossy; body colour dark brown; tergites VI–VII black, antennae and legs brown.

Head circular in outline, convex; eyes relatively small, moderately protruding from lateral contours of head, length of each seen from above shorter than postocular region; surface of head without microsculpture; puncturation minute, pinpricklike and dense. Antennae very long, extending to 1/2 of elytra, slightly increasing in width apically, antennomere 3 longer than 2, antennomeres 4–10 longer than wide, decreasing in length, antennomere 11 nearly coniform.

Pronotum quadrate, convex, lateral sides sinuately narrowed to obtuse hind angles; before base with relatively large transverse impression; surface with obsolete transversely stretched isodiametric mesh microsculpture; puncturation minute, pinpricklike and relatively sparse; pubescence at midline directed entirely anteriorly.

Elytra subquadrate, at suture slightly shorter than pronotal length at midline; surface without microsculpture; puncturation minute, pinpricklike and dense.

Abdomen widened posteriorly, bases of tergites III–V each with deep transverse impression, impressions coarsely and densely punctate; tergal puncturation very fine and moderately dense; surface without microsculpture.

Head circular in outline, convex; eyes large, moderately protruding from lateral contours of head, length of each seen from above subequal to that of postocular region; surface of head without microsculpture; puncturation minute, pinpricklike and dense. Antennae long, extending to 1/2 of elytra, slightly increasing in width apically, antennomere 3 longer than 2, antennomeres 4–10 longer than wide, decreasing in length, antennomere 11 nearly coniform.

Male. Aedeagus as in Figs. 51–52 View FIGURES 51 – 53 .

Female. Spermatheca as in Fig. 53 View FIGURES 51 – 53 .

Remarks. Ischnopoderona similis is very similar to I. perinetensis , from which it can be distinguished by the antennomere 3 longer than 2 (antennomeres 2 and 3 subequal in length in I. perinetensis ), the antennomere 10 brown, coloured like preceding antennomeres (antennomere 10 red, paler than preceding antennomeres in I. perinetensis ), the abdominal basal transverse impression on tergite IV distinctly, coarsely punctate (impunctate in I. perinetensis ) and by the shape of the aedeagus.

Etymology. The name is derived from a similar habitus to I. perinetensis .
