Insect rearing

The live adults collected were transported to the laboratory and were reared following Thornhill & Sauer (1991) and Zhong & Hua (2013b). Ten males and 10 females were maintained in a gauze cage (40 cm × 40 cm × 60 cm). Each cage was supplied with five dead mealworm larvae ( Tenebrio molitor ), damp absorbent cotton, and twigs of plants with leaves every day to prevent low nutritional status and simulate the habitat of the adults.
