ORDER TESTUDINES Batsch 1788 , 437
(1 infraorder, 4 superfamilies, 6 families, 10 genera, 17 species, 1 introduced species). Solís et al. (2014) did not use an order name for the turtles, which was inconsistent with the remaining parts of their list. According to Dubois & Bour (2010a, 155), the Testudines of Batsch is a family-series name, thus it cannot apply to the turtle order, but those authors did not resolve the complicated issue of the turtle order name and its author(s). Thus, for the time being I go against the CODE’s principle ( Anonymous 1999, 113) and continue to use Batsch for both the Order and superfamily names.
