DESCRIPTION OF GORDONIA MANGROVI SP. NOV.
Gordonia mangrovi (man.gro ˊ vi. N.L. gen. n. mangrovi of a mangrove, referring to the isolation of the type strain from mangrove soil).
Cells are Gram-stain-positive, aerobic and rod-shaped. Colonies grow well on ISP2 View Materials agar and are reddish-orange. Grows on ISP1 View Materials , ISP3 View Materials , ISP5 View Materials and ISP7 View Materials agar, but not on ISP4 View Materials or ISP6 View Materials agar. Diffusible pigments including melanoid pigments are not formed. Growth occurs at pH 5–10, at 20–40 °C and in the presence of 0–8% NaCl. Catalase activity and nitrate reduction are positive. Degrades arbutin, but not aesculin, casein, hypoxanthine or xanthine. D-Arabitol,D-fructose, D-glucose,D-mannose, trehalose,L-rhamnose, meso -inositol and sucrose are utilized as sole carbon sources, but not cellulose, cellobiose, D-galactose, lactose,D-xylose or raffinose. L-Arginine,L-asparagine,L-cysteine, L-methionine, L-proline, L-serine, L-threonine and L-valine are used as sole nitrogen sources, but not L-histidine orL-phenylalanine. Resistant to chloramphenicol, gentamicin, kanamycin, nalidixic acid, novobiocin, penicillin G, sulfamethoxazole, tetracycline and tobramycin, but sensitive to rifampin. The cell wall contains meso -diaminopimelic acid. The wholecell sugars are arabinose and galactose. Mycolic acids are present. The menaquinones are MK-9(H 2) an MK-7(H 2). The predominant phospholipids are composed of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylinositol. The major fatty acids are C 16:0, C 16:1 ω 7 c /C 16:1 ω 6 c, C 18:0 10-methyl (TBSA), C 18:0 and C 18:1 ω 9 c. The DNA G+C content of the type strain is 67.0mol%.
The type strain, HNM0687 T (=CCTCC AA 2019074 T =KCTC 49383 T), was isolated from mangrove soil. The GenBank accession number for the 16S rRNA gene of strain HNM0687 T is MN653213 View Materials . The GenBank accession number for the gyrB gene of strain HNM0687 T is MN759309 View Materials . The GenBank accession number for the genome sequence of strain HNM0687 T is WMBR00000000.
