Picobia dryobatis ( Fritsch, 1958) View in CoL

This species was originally described as Syringophilus dryobatis by Fritsch (1958). Kethley (1970), in his revision of syringophilid mites, replaced this species to the genus Picobia Haller. This species was originally described from Dendrocopos major (L.) and to this time was reported only from Germany and Poland ( Fritsch 1958; Skoracki et al. 2004). Because all type material was lost ( Kethley 1970), the redescription of this species with designation of neotypes and paraneotypes was recently provided by Skoracki et al. (2004). It has now been recorded from the same host from England.

Material examined. Three females from the contour feathers in the inter-scapular region of the great spotted woodpecker Dendrocopos major (L.); England, Askham Bryan near York (53°31’N, 1°9’W), 26 June 2006, coll. D. Baker.
