Ascorhynchus ramipes var. tsingtaoensis Lou, 1936a , 3–19, figs. 2–6, pl. 1.

Material examined Female (TIO2019QD01), intertidal belt, Nanjiang Wharf, Qingdao, China, 11 Jul. 2019, Juhao Wang .

Distribution This species was common in collections from Japan. It was also recorded in China, Korea, the Gulf of Thailand, and the Gulf of Manaar although it was rarely found in these areas.

Remarks Our specimen was easily identified as A. ramipes by the noticeable first pair of legs with the absence of claws and the longer tarsus and propodus. Lou (1936a) had previously reported this species in Qingdao and described it as A. ramipes var. tsingtaoensis because of the shorter proboscis, shorter abdomen and small tubercles located behind the base of the chelifores, but this separate variety name was thought unnecessary by Hedgpeth (1949). The smaller ratio between the proboscis and trunk in Lou (1936a) might be caused by the method used to obtain the measurements. This specimen obtained from the same area as the area in the study by Lou (1936a) was quite close to his description and figures, but with longer proboscis (slightly longer than half of trunk), longer abdomen (approximate 4/5 of proboscis) and without tubercles behind the base of the chelifores.
