Scrapter confusus subgroup
In both sexes the S. confusus subgroup is defined by the following character combination: mesosoma and terga covered by a mix of coarse and very fine punctation, facial fovea very broad, about four times as long as wide.
The only species of this subgroup ( Table 1 View Table 1 ), S. confusus sp. nov., is quite different from all other species of the S. nitidus group but clearly does not belong to the apparently closely related taxa around S. aureiferus and S. calx that form a species group of their own. Species of the latter group are distinctly smaller with finer punctation.
