This genus has 19 species of which only two are represented in Mexico ( Howden 1993b). Species of Pandeleteius (Exmenetypus) seem to be related and could be erroneously identified as Airosimus , because they share characteristics in the apex of the rostrum and some species have a rudimentary semi-enclosed corbel (here termed as false corbel, Howden 1974, 1976). Nevertheless, the Mexican Pandeleteius (Exmenetypus) can be separated from Airo- simus as in the key. The phylogenetic relationships among these groups need to be discussed. See Howden (1993b) to separate the Mexican species.
