Previously known from AB, CO, MB, MI, MN, MT, ND, NM, NS, NT, ON, PQ, SK and TX (Bousquet and Larochelle 1993), B. obtusus is found among leaves on rather moist soil in shaded positions (Lindroth 1969) .
