Sicoderus hamburgi ( SleePer, 1954) View in CoL ( Figs. 5–6 View Figs )
Erodiscus hamburgi Sleeper 1954: 354 View in CoL . O’Brien and Wibmer 1982: 100. Described from a female holotype labeled Reventazon, Costa Rica, VI-24, E. Hamburg.
Sicoderus hamburgi View in CoL ; Vanin 1986: 618.
Although he placed it within Sicoderus View in CoL but without assignment to a species group, Vanin (1986) also considered that this species might be a Prosicoderus View in CoL based on Sleeper’s comment that this species was “nearest to E. bituberculatus Champion View in CoL ”, a species Vanin had assigned to Prosicoderus View in CoL . On the other hand, Sleeper’s description states that the suture between abdominal ventrites 1 and 2 was “not in evidence” and that the tarsal claws were simple, character states I have confirmed by examination of the holotype, yet in all known Prosicoderus View in CoL , including Prosicoderus bituberculatus (Champion) View in CoL , the suture is very distinct and the tarsal claws are toothed. As for S. panamensis , the holotype is also a female so a confirmed placement in a species group is not possible without examination of a conspecific male.
