Diagnosis. Body yellowish brown to brown; antennal segment I pale, II to VIII pale brown to brown. Postocular setae I the longest, III minute. Pronotum with about 20 discal setae. Mesonotum with a pair of CPS anteromedially; median pair of setae ahead of posterior margin. Metascutum weakly sculptured with longitudinal anastomosing striae; median pair of setae at anterior margin. Abdominal terga without ciliate microtrichia on lines of sculpture, smooth medially; tergum II with three lateral marginal setae; terga VII and VIII with B4 setae minute; tergum IX with both anterior and posterior pairs of CPS; sternum without discal setae. Male is unknown.
Specimen examined. U.S.A.: Holotype (female) of Taeniothrips aureus [ Taeniothrips aurea M., California, Echo Lake, Grass (sweeping), 23viii1930, Dudley Moulton] (CAS).
