Holotype male, from coast below Pico Turquino , Sierra Maestra , Oriente province [at present Santiago de Cuba province], Cuba. [ MCZ].
Distribution. Coastal strip at the foot of Sierra Maestra, west of Santiago de Cuba.
Notes. According to Rehn and Rehn (1942) this species is morphologically closer to M. macaca , but this latter inhabits higher areas (approximately 500 – 1000 m) of the Sierra Maestra.
