Diagnosis. Members of Hilarempis occur mainly in the Southern Hemisphere. The northernmost record is from Costa Rica ( Cumming & Sinclair 2009). Among Hilarini genera, this genus is characterized by the following combination of characters: male generally dichoptic, when holoptic upper ommatidia slightly larger; vein Sc evanescent apically; R 4+5 forked; hind femur not thickened and not densely covered with short white microtrichia ventrally; hind tibia subequal to hind femur in length.
