Types and Synonymy. The holotype of Crabro quinquenotatus Jurine View in CoL was considered to be lost ( Pulawski 2021). The informations provided by Frei-Gessner et al. (1882) made its location possible. In Jurine’s collection, I have found a unique specimen of the species. It is labeled by Jurine the same way he labeled the specimens he described (only by illustrating them) with a characteristic cross on the species name label. The specimen is also mounted and prepared meticulously as the ones Jurine illustrated. It is a female showing the same whitish spots as in the illustration of Jurine (1807). The label “ Tracheliodes quinquenotatus View in CoL Type?” was added by de Beaumont. It is without a doubt the holotype and it is now labeled as such. It has no locality label. The work of Jurine (1807) deals mostly with European fauna and I believe this specimen comes from Italy. Its coloration matches that of the Italian populations and it is known that Jurine collection contains specimens from Liguria ( Frei-Gessner et al. 1882).

Crossocerus luteicollis Lepeletier & Brullé View in CoL was described based on a unique specimen without locality label from the MNHN collections. It was synonymized with C. quinquenotatus Jurine View in CoL by Kohl (1915: 324). Its type is considered to be lost ( Pulawski 2021). I have thoroughly searched the MNHN collections, but was unable to locate it. It seems safe to assume it is truly lost. The description clearly refers to a species of the quinquenotatus View in CoL complex, but is not sufficient to identify this taxon. Thus, C. luteicollis View in CoL could be an available and valid name for one other species of the group. However, C. luteicollis View in CoL is already synonymized under T. quinquenotatus View in CoL and is most probably that species according to the description (whitish spots, shiny dorsal area). In order to fix the nomenclature of this group I designate as the neotype of C. luteicollis View in CoL the holotype of C. quinquenotatus View in CoL so that C. luteicollis View in CoL becomes an objective synonym of that species.

Diagnosis. The clypeus free margin is diagnostic because of its wide and short lateral teeth, 1.8–2.5 (usually 2.0) × as wide as long ( Fig. 1B View FIGURE 1 , 2B View FIGURE 2 ) and its wide transverse clypeal process in females ( Fig. 1B View FIGURE 1 ). The clypeal process is sometimes reduced in small specimens but, the clypeus remains conspicuously elevated, with a sharp transition between the horizontal basomedian area and the concave bevel, appearing angulate. The orbital fovea is usually wide, especially widened posteriorly and often shorter than in the other discussed species. The following are ivorywhite to white-yellowish: base of mandible (entirely in males), a line on anterior surface of scape, a spot on lower gena (sometimes absent), a spot on the top of inner orbit up to whole inner orbit, pronotal collar, tegula, scutellum, median spot on tergum I (usually absent in Corsica), a pair of wide lateral spots on tergum III and on tergum V (usually absent in Corsican females and in most males), fore and mid tibiae and parts of associated femora and trochanter, the two upper thirds of hindtibia, fore tarsus and sometimes mid tarsus.
