nom. nov. |
Rubus eubaticus Doweld , nom. nov.
Replaced name:— Rubus mucronatus Palamarev (in Palamarev & Petkova 1987: 109, 179, pl. 29, fig.
Type:—Д-62 (Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystems Research, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia, Bulgaria).
Geography:—Drenovets, Bulgaria.
Stratigraphy:—Upper Miocene (Tortonian = Sarmatian).
Status:—Fruits (endocarps).
Eponymy:—Similar to extant species of Rubus sect. Eubatus Focke (1874: 148) in endocarp morphology.
IFPNI registration record:— 572BB7B2-173B-54EE-1C45-7D518CE35F6B.
Note:—The fossil-species is accepted in the Miocene palaeofloras of southern Europe with no recognized synonyms (Palamarev et al., 2015; Bozukov 2016); it was established based on fossil fruits (endocarps) found in Drenovets ( Bulgaria) from the Upper Miocene (Tortonian) sediments. However, the fossil-species is a later illegitimate homonym of the extant species R. mucronatus Seringe (in De Candolle 1825: 30) . Hence, a new replacement name is validated here for the fossil-species.
