Deltocephalinae View in CoL : Acostemmini

Diagnosis. Anterior margin of head with single carina or ridge between ocelli (rarely reduced or absent); epistomal suture keeled, distinct, or evident by change in texture of frontoclypeus from shagreen below suture to glabrous, striate, or rugose above suture and below interocellar carina, especially laterally near ocelli; forewing appendix reduced or absent (except in Ikelibeloha ); pygofer macrosetae often absent or reduced, or if present, then setae short, stout; valve straplike and fused to pygofer OR with long lateral margin and broadly articulated with pygofer; subgenital plates fused to each other and articulated with or fused to valve (in Ikelibeloha and Telopetulcus , articulated with each other and with valve); connective Y -shaped and fused to aedeagus OR T - or cross-shaped, with anteromedial lobe or process, articulated with aedeagus; style linear, with median anterior lobe not pronounced; style basal part linear, not broadly bilobed; style apophysis often inserted at acute or right angle to base, sometimes only membranously separated from style base ( Alocoelidia, Caelidioides , Ikelibeloha , and Iturnoria ).

Remarks. Some Acostemmini are similar in several respects to some Stegelytrini . In addition to the similar plesiomorphic male genitalia of some Acostemmini and Stegelytrini , Alocoelidia, Caelidioides , Iturnoria , and Protonesis have the eyes encroaching onto pronotum laterally and lying dorsad of the lateral carina, as in many Stegelytrini . This condition occurs simultaneously in some but not all Deltocephalinae where the head is much narrower than the pronotum. Some Acostemmini have supernumerary setae on the profemur (e.g. Eryapus spp. ), and a few have been observed to have small setae on the dorsal side of the metatibia, characters that are diagnostic for most Stegelytrini . Ikelibeloha is similar to some Stegelytrini in having the scutellum raised, keeled, and carinate and having very long antennae.

Most Acostemmini lack the following characters present in most Stegelytrini ( Wei et al., 2010) : forewing appendix large, extending around apex of wing (appendix somewhat developed in Ikelibeloha ); clypellus with pair of stout subapical setae; profemur, especially row AV with supernumerary or modified setae; metafemur apex with extra macrosetae; metatibia dorsal surface with extra scattered setae proximally; presence of sclerotized area in interconnecting membrane between apodeme of aedeagus and pygofer side. As noted above, some Acostemmini do have supernumerary setae on the legs (e.g. Eryapus ), but usually not to the extent as in most Stegelytrini .
