This genus represents the Subfamily Caprinae . The different spellings in the literature for this genus include ‘ Naemorhedus’, ‘Naemorh ae dus’, ‘N e morh ae dus’, ‘N e morhedus’ and ‘N e mo rr h ae dus’, but the original spelling was ‘ Naemorhedus’ ( Grubb 2005). Naemorhedus was previously regarded as a monospecific genus but currently four species are recognized ( Grubb 2005). Only one species, N. caudatus , occurred in Korea.
