Mahonia mahoniiformis (Saporta) Doweld , comb. nov.
≡ Hakeites mahoniiformis Saporta in Heer (1861: 137) (“ mahoniaeformis ”) ≡ Hakea mahoniiformis Saporta (1863: 62 , pl. 7, fig. 6)
(“ mahoniaeformis ”). ≡ Hakeites ilicinus Saporta in Heer (1861: 137), syn. nov. ≡ Hakea ilicina (Saporta) Saporta (1863: 63) . Type:—[fossil leaves] Saint-Zacharie, Var, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, France (Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris, France,
not found).
Occurrence:—Lower Miocene (Aquitanian); Europe ( France).
IFPNI: B4BCF801-D896-5EA1-AC11-9D2ABDEF6896.
Notes:—The brochidodromous venation and general form of the fossil leaves, coarsely and irregularly dentate, described as a distinct fossil-species Hakeites mahoniiformis and later re-classified Hakea mahoniiformis Saporta ,
have nothing in common to do with the proteaceous foliage. In contrast, these characters point out the affinity with Mahonia .
