Ptyssalges major ( Trouessart, 1886)

Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Eutoxeres aquila (Bourcier) ( Apodiformes : Trochilidae ) from “ Nouvelle-Grenade ” ( Trouessart 1886). This mite has never been recollected since the original description.

Remarks. In the same publication Trouessart (1886) also gave Phaethornis longirostris (Delattre) ( Apodiformes : Trochilidae ), as a host of this mite species. However Atyeo and Gaud (1979) examined Trouessart’s material and concluded that mites from P. longirostris belong to an undescribed species.
