Genus Diplaegidia Hull
Diplaegidia xiphopterna ( Trouessart, 1899) comb. n.
Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Ognorhynchus icterotis (Massena and Souancé) ( Psittaciformes : Psittacidae ) from Colombia ( Trouessart 1899). It was further recorded from the same host in Colombia by Bonnet (1924a).
Remarks. This mite species was originally described by Trouessart (1899) as a member of the genus Megninia Berlese. The only existing male specimen of this species (Trouessart Collection 29i2, MNHN, Paris, France) actually belongs to the genus Diplaegidia . The record of this species on a parrot is quite obviously the result of accidental contamination, because Diplaegidia is restricted to Columbiformes ( Gaud 1976) . In the present paper we move Megninia xiphopterna Trouessart, 1899 to the genus Diplaegidia Hull and create a new combination.
