Genus Megninia Berlese
Megninia laciniosa Bonnet, 1924
Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Pyroderus scutatus (Shaw) (type host) ( Passeriformes : Cotingidae ) and Schistochlamys sp. ( Passeriformes : Thraupidae ) from Colombia ( Bonnet 1924a) and has never been recollected since the original description.
Remark. Since species of the genus Megninia are mostly restricted to galliform birds, it is quite possible that the record of this mite species from these passerine hosts are the result of an accidental contamination.
