Genus Neochauliacia Gaud and Atyeo
Neochauliacia ocellata Gaud and Atyeo, 1967
Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Streptoprocne zonaris (Shaw) ( Apodiformes : Apodidae ) from Brazil (Mato Grosso) ( Gaud & Atyeo 1967). Later on, it was recovered from the same host from Mexico, Brazil and Paraguay, ex S. zonaris albicincta (Cabanis) from Colombia and Venezuela, and ex S. z. altissima Chapman from Ecuador ( Peterson et al. 1980).
Remark. According to Clements et al. (2011), S. zonaris albicincta is not present in Colombia, therefore it is probable that N. ocellata was recovered in Colombia from another subspecies.
Neochauliacia selenura ( Trouessart, 1899)
Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Streptoprocne zonaris (Shaw) ( Apodiformes : Apodidae ) from Mexico ( Trouessart 1899). Later on, it was recovered from the same host from Brazil (Goias) ( Berla 1959c), and ex S. z. altissima Chapman from Colombia, ex S. z. mexicana Ridgway from Mexico, and ex S. z. pallidifrons (Hertert) from Jamaica and Dominican Republic ( Peterson et al. 1980).
Neochauliacia simplex Peterson, Atyeo and Moss, 1980
Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Streptoprocne z. zonaris (Shaw) ( Apodiformes : Apodidae ) from Brazil (Rio de Janeiro), Paraguay, Venezuela, Ecuador (Bolivar) and Bolivia (Consata), with additional material ex S. z. albicincta (Cabanis) from Colombia and Venezuela, ex Streptoprocne z. altissima Chapman from Colombia and Ecuador, ex S. z. mexicana Ridgway from Mexico, and ex S. z. pallidifrons (Hertert) from Jamaica and Dominican Republic ( Peterson et al. 1980). This mite has never been recollected since the original description. Remark. According to Clements et al. (2011) S. zonaris albicincta is not present in Colombia, therefore it is probable that N. simplex was recovered in Colombia from another subspecies.
Neochauliacia transversa Peterson, Atyeo and Moss, 1980
Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Cypseloides rothschildi Zimmer (as C. major ) ( Apodiformes : Apodidae ) from Argentina (Perico, Salta), also ex C. n. niger (Gmelin) from Cuba, ex C. niger borealis (Kennerly) from Colombia and C. n. costaricensis Ridgway from Mexico ( C. niger in the genus Nephoecetes in the original publication) ( Peterson et al. 1980). This mite has never been recollected since the original description.
Remark. According to Clements et al. (2011), C. niger is not present in Colombia, therefore it is probable that N. transversa was recovered in Colombia from another Cypseloides sp.
