Genus Mesosathes Gaud, Atyeo and Berla
Mesosathes meniscurus Gaud, Atyeo and Berla, 1972
Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Crypturellus boucardi (Sclater) ( Tinamiformes : Tinamidae ) from Mexico, with additional material ex C. eurytropus (Pelzeln) from Guayana and Brazil and ex C. noctivagus (Wied-Neuwied) from Venezuela and Colombia ( Gaud et al. 1972). This mite has never been recollected since the original description.
Remark. According to Clements et al. (2011), C. noctivagus is restricted to Eastern Brazil, therefore it is probable that M. meniscurus was recovered from another Crypturoptes sp. in Venezuela and Colombia.
Mesosathes schizurus Gaud, Atyeo and Berla, 1972
Hosts and distribution. This species was described ex Crypturellus soui (Hermann) ( Tinamiformes : Tinamidae ) from Colombia (Dept. Norte de Santander, Petrólea; Dept. Caquetá, Puerto Venecia), with additional material from the same host from Brazil, and ex C. variegatus (Gmelin) from Venezuela and C. bartletti (Sclater and Salvin) from Peru ( Gaud et al. 1972). This mite has never been recollected since the original description.
