COMMENTS: The Berlin museum holds 14 out of the original 17 specimens collected by Bürgers. At least two, the holotype AMNH 677964, and a female paratype, AMNH 677965, were forwarded to the AMNH. See Ailuroedus melanotis guttaticollis for details on the trip. This taxon was not considered in Meise's MS. The subspecies was named for Prof. Dr. Erwin Stresemann (1889–1972), well known ornithologist and head of Berlin's ornithological collection. Stresemann and Hartert were close friends and colleagues who cooperated in the ornithological investigation of New Guinea and adjacent islands ( Haffer et al. 2000, Steinheimer 2004).
