Ceroplastes cirripediformis Comstock, 1881 View in CoL
( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–6 )
Ceroplastes cirripediformis Comstock, Li et al., 2018: 527 View in CoL .
Material examined. YUNNAN: 16 ♀♀, Baoshan, on unknown plant, 6.xi.2012, coll. Xinlei Huang ; 12 ♀♀, Mengzi, on Duranta repens , 17.iv.2013, coll. Jun Deng, Xubo Wang, & Xu Zhang; 28 ♀♀, Puer, on D. repens , 23–25.iv.2013, coll. Jun Deng, Xubo Wang, & Xu Zhang.
Distribution in China. Fujian, Guizhou, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Yunnan, Zhejiang ( Li et al. 2018).
Host-plants. Conyaza japonica (Asteraceae) ; Bischofia javanica (Euphobiaceae) ; Cedrus deodara (Pinaceae) ; Pyrus sp. ( Rosaceae ); Hamelia patens (Rubiaceae) and Duranta repens (Verbenaceae) . Among those, Duranta repens is the preferred host ( Li et al. 2018).
Biology. The adult females occur on the branches of the host.
Remarks. This species was identified by comparison with Gimpel et al. (1974) ’s description and illustration. Ceroplastes cirripediformis differs from all other species discussed here from China in possessing clearly capitate dorsal setae. Its waxy test is similar to that of C. rusci , but C. cirripediformis can be easily distinguished from C. rusci by having an antenna with 7 segments and the dorsal pores predominantly trilocular ( C. rusci has an antenna with 6 segments and the dorsal pores predominantly bilocular).
