Megatyrus View in CoL sp. 1: Nomura, Sakchoowong & Chanpaisaeng, 2010: 24.

Megatyrus masumotoi Nomura, Sakchoowong & Chanpaisaeng, 2011: 122 View in CoL .

Type material examined. Holotype: ♂, THAILAND: labeled ’ 15 km pt. (by Tillgren), Kaeng Krachan NP, [W THAILAND] 8.vi.2009, Watana S. leg. / FAUNA THAILANDICA, Staphylinidae , Pselaphinae , Megatyrus sp. 1 [KK] S. Nomura det., 2009 / HOLOTYPE [red] Staphylinidae , Pselaphinae , Megatyrus masumotoi Nomura et al., 2011 , S. Nomura det., 2012’. ( NSMT).

Additional material examined. 1 ♂, MALAYSIA [new country record]: labeled ‘ MALAYSIA W, 2013, KELANTAN, kg. Tunku, Mt. Noring Timur, 1200 m, 150 km S of JELI, 21.ii.–14.iii., P. Cechovsky lgt.’ ( SNUC).

Comments. The lack of ventral spines on meso- and metatrochanters, combined with the presence of paired metaventral nodules and process, and the form of aedeagus ( Figs 3 View FIGURE 3 B, C) of this specimen readily leads its identity to M. masumotoi . The slight difference in the forms of aedeagal endophallus and the apical portion of the aedeagal median lobe between the populations of Thailand ( Nomura et al. 2011: 126, Figs 4A, D) and Malaysia is considered intraspecific variation. The present record of M. masumotoi in Malay Peninsula, ca. 870 km south of its type locality, is somewhat surprising given that previously, the five species known to occur in Thailand and Vietnam were found in a relatively small geographic area.
