Basionym:― Statice doerfleri Halácsy (1899: 1) View in CoL ≡ Limonium ramosissimum subsp. doerfleri (Halácsy) Pignatti (1971: 366) View in CoL . Type (lectotype, designated here):— GREECE. Cyclades: Flora Aegaea, I. Dörfler View in CoL no. 172. Insula Denusa, 10 June 1898, Chr. Leonis View in CoL (M!, isolectotypes B!, FI!, G!, P!, PR!, W!, WU!, Herb. Greuter!).
Description: —Plant perennial, glabrous, forming a sub-shrub 20–45 cm tall, with several erect stems and a robust tap-root. Caudices 10–50 mm long, branched, densely spirally leafy in the upper half. Leaves fleshy, glaucous, normally flat, 25–50 mm long and 8–14 mm broad, cuneate-spathulate, apex obtuse to acute, mucronate, retuse, 1 central nerve with 2 lateral nerves at least on large leaves, gradually tapering into the petiole. Stems 15–40 cm long, flexuous, rugose, branching begins above lower third of the stems. Inflorescenc e corymbose or obtrullate in outline. Sterile branches absent or only 1–3 per stem, 10–50 mm long, straight to slightly curved, longer branches divided loosely in the upper half. Fertile branches 3–12 cm long, straight to slightly curved, directed obliquely upwards to spreading, forming branching angles of 40°– 60°, in the upper half loosely branched. Spikes thick, 10–20 mm long, straight to slightly curved, directed obliquely upwards. Spikelets 5.5–6.0 mm long, composed of 1–3 flowers, densely arranged with 5–7 per cm. Outer bract 2.2–2.8 mm long and 2.1–2.3 mm broad, triangular-ovate, acute; bract margin broadly membranous; central part slightly fleshy, acuminate. Middle bract membranous, 2.2–2.7 mm long and 1.8–2.0 mm broad, oblong-elliptic, rounded. Inner bract 4.4–5.1 mm long and 3.7–4.4 mm broad, obovate, rounded; bract margin broadly membranous; central part fleshy, often glaucous, 3.5–3.9 mm long and 2.6–3.0 mm broad, oblong-obovate, acuminate, forming a broadly triangular tip, 0.5–0.7 mm long, not reaching the upper margin. Calyx 4.2–5.1 mm long, exceeding the inner bract by 1.0– 1.5 mm; calyx tube densely long hairy, with 5 ribs ending at the base of lobes; calyx lobes ca. 0.5 × 1.0 mm, nearly semi-circular. Corolla lilac.
Distribution: —Cycladic Islands of Anydros, Donousa, Folegandros, Makares ( Fig. 88B View FIGURE 88 ).

Habitat: —Calcareous rocky coast.
Taxonomic remarks: —The species was described by Halácsy (1899) on specimen collected by Leonis in 1898 at Donousa Island, distributed by Dörfler in his centuriae Flora Aegaea with no. 172. L. doerfleri is similar to L. sirinicum , but differs from the latter by having broader leaves, and shorter spikelets, bracts and calyces.
Specimens examined: — GREECE. Cyclades: Insula Anhydros (Amorgopulos), in saxosis litoreis, 6 May 1934, K. H. Rechinger 5222 (BM, G, W); Donousa : Cycladum insula Denussa , July 1897, Weiss s.n. (M); Scop. Cardiotissa prope ins. Pholegandros , in rupestribus litoreis, 25 May 1963, Phitos 894 (M); Insel Makaries (östl. Greuter) .
