Abbreviated Description. Indumentum of minute appressed dibrachiate hairs, leaflets5–7(–8), alternate or subopposite, 10 × 4–25 × 8 cm, usually oblanceolate, less frequently oblong or elliptic, secondary veins strongly arcuate-ascending, inflorescence (13–)19–35(–55) cm long, a pyramidal thyrse, laxly flowered, petals 3–4(–5), 2–2.5(–3) mm long, fused for 1/2–3/4 their length, valvate, remaining erect, filaments completely united in an urceolate staminal tube, anthers (4–)5–8, nectary absent, ovary 3-locular, locules with 2 collateral ovules, capsule 1.8–2.2(–3) cm long, 0.7–1 cm broad, 3-valved, ellipsoid to oblong, smooth, minutely appressed puberulous, seed 1–2 collateral in each fruit, arillode developed only at apex and along adaxial face of seed.

Distribution & Ecology. Now known from southern Venezuela, the Guianas, to Amapá, Pará and central Amazonia (Manaus). It is a species of lowland rain forest, usually on non-flooded land, but often along riverbanks. Recorded up to 1250 m elevation in Surinam.
