Remarks. Under Article 13.4 of the Code, the nominal genus Metatanais described as “ Metatanais cylindricus n. gen. & n. sp.” in Shiino (1951a) is available. Metatanais cylindricus , the sole Metatanais species when the genus was erected, was fixed as the type species for Metatanais by monotypy (Article 68.3 of the Code).
Shiino (1952) placed Metatanais in the family Tanaidae (= Tanaididae in the current classification system). Later, this genus was transferred to Nototanaidae , then to the family incertae sedis, and is currently placed in Paratanaidae ( Bird 2015) .
