Taxonomy. Original description: Alburnus magnificus Freyhof & Turan, 2019: 374 , figs. 2-4 [Stream Afrin about 5 km east of Kocabeyli, Kilis province, Turkey, 36.806°N 36.982°E; holotype: FFR 998].—Syrian synonyms: None.—Revisions: None.—Illustration: Freyhof & Turan (2019: figs. 2-4).
Status in Syria. This species recorded from Syria by Freyhof & Turan (2019: 375).—Syrian material: None.
Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Syria: Orontes River drainage.—Distribution in River Basin: 4-Orontes.— General distribution: Asia Minor and Middle East: Lower Orontes River drainage ( Turkey and probably Syria).—Distribution in Ecoregion: 437-Orontes.—Habitat: This species inhabits all kinds of lowland water bodies with standing or slowly flowing waters, such as larger streams, rivers, springs, marshes, reservoirs, and lakes. Freshwater.
Economic importance. Locally consumed, but of no commercial importance.
Conservation. Conservation status in Syria: Unknown.—IUCN: NE (2023).—Threats:Unknown.—High sensitivity to human activities.—Not considered as a keystone species.—Decline status: Unknown.—Moderate priority for conservation action.
