Remarks. This species may be recognized by the anastomosing circular and longitudinal muscle bands, the presence of contractile vessel villi on the esophagus and the lack of either hooks or papillae on the introvert.
Distribution. Keferstein (1867) described this species from Cumana in Venezuela. It is widely found in tropical and subtropical waters in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans as well as the Red Sea. It has not been recorded from the eastern sides of either the Atlantic or Pacific Oceans ( Cutler, 1994).
