Remarks. This is the first record of Calappa ocellata from Barbados. This specimen was collected by hand in subtidal habitat (~ 4 m deep) on sandy bottom. Calappa ocellata is abundant in the Carlisle Bay area on the south coast of Barbados (N. Parasram, pers. obs.). Rathbun (1921: 66) reported Calappa angusta A. Milne-Edwards, 1880 and Calappa gallus (Herbst, 1803) for Barbados, which were collected by the Barbados-Antigua Expedition in 1918. One juvenile specimen of Calappa angusta was collected at Pelican Island and additional specimens were collected by the steamers “Hassler” at 180 m (100 fathoms) and “Blake” at 185 m (103 fathoms; USNM 77290). The taxonomy of Calappa angusta has been revised by Williams (1988: 109–112; fig. 3) with the species transferred to the genus Cyclozodion . One female specimen of Calappa gallus was collected from Pelican Island by the Barbados-Antigua Expedition in 1918. Pelican Island no longer exists in Barbados as it was incorporated into the Deep-Water Harbour complex in 1961.
