Remarks. Specimens of Mithrax hispidus were caught in crab traps (~ 4 m deep) on the west and south coasts of Barbados. First reported by Schomburgk (1848: 65) and later reported by Jones (1969: 381) for Barbados. The Barbados-Antigua Expedition in 1918 did not report any specimens of Mithrax hispidus for Barbados. Collin & Morris (1976) reported specimens of Mithrax hispidus collected from Pliocene coral rock formation at Gibbons, Christ Church, Barbados. This species was assigned to the genus Damithrax by Windsor & Felder (2014). Subsequently, however, Windsor & Felder (2017) showed Damithrax to be a junior synonym of Mithrax and accordingly reassigned Damithrax hispidus to Mithrax .
