( Figures 2A,B View Figure 2 ; 4G,H View Figure 4 )
Holotype
Male , Mt Nam, Chungju, CB, 24–26 August 2000, Paek, Kim and Kim, gen. prep. no – CIS 5574 View Materials .
Diagnosis
This species is close to H. distinctus (Herrich-Schäffer) in the wing pattern ( Figure 2B,D View Figure 2 ), but is easily recognized by its entirely dark brown colour ( Figure 2A View Figure 2 ) and “S”-like spine in left valva of male genitalia ( Figure 4G View Figure 4 ). It is also similar to H. kuwayamai (Matsumura) , but is distinguished by no dot on 1/ 3 in forewing ( Figure 2H View Figure 2 ), and curved spine of left valva, no process of right valva in male genitalia ( Figure 4G,M View Figure 4 ).
Description
Adult ( Figure 2A,B View Figure 2 ). Wingspan 16 mm in male. Ground colour dark brown, tinged with yellowish white; frons brown with a white line between the compound eye; occipital fringes yellowish brown; labial palpus white with pale brown inner margin; antenna white. Thorax and tegula pale yellowish white tinged with pale brown centrally; forewing cleft from 4/7; marking of forewing dark brown; densely scattered from the cleft to the termen; one patch before the cleft, two distinct patches on costal margin from 4/7 of first lobe; dot on vein R5; apex of the white fringes; inner margin of first lobe cleft with brown fringes. Hindwing brown entirely; leg white with brown liner ventrally.
Male genitalia ( Figure 4G,H View Figure 4 ). Valvae asymmetric, left valva with rounded apex, right valva with rather pointed apex; S-like shaped spine of left valve with sclerotized base; no process and saccular margin simple, concave laterally on the middle in right valva; uncus beak-like; juxta with asymmetric arms; aedeagus simple.
Female genitalia. Unknown.
Etymology. The specific name of the new species is derived from the Greek, cyrto (= curved) and acantha (= spine) referring to the S-like spine on left valve of male genitalia.
Distribution
