Length. Male 6.20–6.80 mm., female unknown.
External morphology. Medium sized, robust species. General color fuscous with 2 broad, flavous, transverse bands on forewings, apex flavous to fuscous, face fuscous ( Plate 1H View PLATE 1 ). Head large, nearly as wide as pronotum, anterior margin rounded; crown broad, wider than width of eyes, anterior margin slightly produce, disk depressed; eyes large, somewhat globular; pronotum large, length greater than median length of crown, inflated; mesonotum large, length greater than median length of pronotum; forewings long, broad, 3 anteapical cells present, outer one closed; clypellus moderately long, broad, with prominent median longitudinal carina; clypellus narrow, lateral margins converging apically.
Male genitalia. Pygofer in lateral view narrow, with prominent, stout caudodorsal process, ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 57–63 ); right subgenital plate long, narrow, broadly curved, glabrous ( Fig. 58 View FIGURES 57–63 ); style long, longer than aedeagus, robust ( Fig. 59 View FIGURES 57–63 ); aedeagus short, tubular with narrow, circular apex ( Figs. 60 View FIGURES 57–63 ); connective Y-shaped, stem short, without membrane medially ( Fig. 61 View FIGURES 57–63 ); dorsal connective relatively short, broad in lateral view, very narrow, broad basally in dorsal view ( Figs. 61, 63 View FIGURES 57–63 ).
Material examined. Holotype male. PERU: Madre de Dios, Rio Tambopata Res., 30 km. (air) SW. Pto Maldonado , 290 m., 12º50’S.– 69º20’W., 3-XI-1982, insect flight trap, R. C. Wilkerson ( NHNH) GoogleMaps . Paratypes, 4 males, same data as holotype ( FSU, MLBM) GoogleMaps .
Etymology. The name is descriptive for the shape of the pygofer caudal process.
Remarks. This species can easily be separated from H. plana ( Figs. 6, 7 View FIGURES 1–8 , Nielson, 1996) by the configurations of the pygofer ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 57–63 ) and aedeagus ( Figs. 60, 61 View FIGURES 57–63 ).
