Cercopithecus View in CoL büttikoferi Jentink, 1886
Notes from the Leyden Museum 8, p. 56
Current valid name: Cercopithecus petaurista buettikoferi Jentink, 1886
A 3949, female, in alcohol, skull ZMB 8343; Liberia, January 1886, collected by Büttikofer, donated by Schlüter 1886 .
Comment: The description of Cercopithecus büttikoferi is based on eight specimens (Jentink 1886, p. 57), collected in Liberia by Büttikofer and Sala. Jentink (1892, p. 22/23) listed those eight syntypes, all collected in Liberia in St. Pauls-River , Sofore , Bavia , Bendo, and Buluma, between March and December 1880 and 1881. Specimen A 3949 / ZMB 8343 is marked in the A-Catalog as type specimen for Cercopithecus büttikoferi. It had been collected by Büttikofer in Liberia in 1880 or 1881, and came to the Museum Berlin in 1886 via Schlüter. Although the specimen A 3949 / ZMB 8343 is from the same series, it was not mentioned in Jentink's description and is therefore not a type .
