Current valid name: Propithecus deckenii Peters, 1870
Syntypes: ZMB 3465, female, skull and skin; ZMB 3466, female, skin and skull; “Kanatzi, 18° s. Breitengrad” [presumably location near Maintirano], NW Madagascar; collected by von der Decken, between 1860 and 1861 .
Comment: In the Mammal Species of the World (Groves 2005), Grandidier (1867) is erroneously listed as the describer of Propithecus deckenii . However, Grandidier (1867) described Propithecus Verreauxi [sic] as a new species and made no mention of Propithecus deckenii . The first description and name of Propithecus deckenii appeared in Peters (1870).
