Octolicnus [sic] peli Temminck, 1853
Esquisses Zoologique sur la Côte de Guiné, 1853, p. 42
Current valid name: Galagoides demidoff (Fischer, 1806)
Syntype: ZMB 322, juvenile, skin; Dutch Gold Coast, Dabocrom, now South Ghana; collected by Hendrik Severinus Pel, received from Museum Leiden, undated .
Comment: Jentink (1892) did not list the species Galago or Otolicnus peli when examining the Leiden Museum. All specimens in question can only be found under Galago demidoffii [sic]. Jentink overlooked the peli specimens as types, probably because he identified them with Fischer’s Galago demidoff ( Mije et al. 2023) . Temminck, however, described the new species peli of supposed demidoffii specimens in the Leiden collection. Mije et al. (2023) recently identified in the collection of the Naturalis Biodiversity Center Leiden four other syntype specimens of Octolicnus peli (RMNH.MAM39079, RMNH.MAM.38980, RMNH.MAM.39081, and RMNH.MAM.25166).
