Type locality: off KwaZulu–Natal, South Africa.

Distribution: Indian Ocean—southwestern (off South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya, Madagascar, Seychelles, and Mascarenes) and northwestern (off Abd al-Kuri Island, Socotra Archipelago).
