Material examined. None.

Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (Massachusetts to Florida), Mexico (Gulf of Mexico), Belize, Panama, Venezuela, Antilles, and Brazil (Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina) ( Abele & Kim 1986; Martins & D’Incao 1996; Melo 1996, 1998; Bezerra et al. 2006; Almeida & Coelho 2008; Palacios-Theil et al. 2009, 2016).

Remarks. Previous records on the coast of São Paulo include Ubatuba ( Negreiros-Fransozo et al. 2002). This species is found associated with bivalves Cassostrea, Anomia , Mytilus, Pecten , and in burrows of polychaetes ( Martins & D’Incao 1996; Melo 1998), being difficult to sample.
