Distribution. Western Atlantic—Tobago, and Brazil (Amapá, Pará, Maranhão, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul) ( Melo 1996, 1998; Dall’Occo et al. 2004; Coelho et al. 2008; Pachelle et al. 2016).
Remarks. Previous records in São Paulo include Ubatuba ( Mantelatto & Cuesta 2010; Palacios-Theil et al. 2009, 2016) and Caraguatatuba (Ocampo et al. 2013). It was allocated in the genus Austinixa Heard & Manning, 1997 together with other six species, among them A. cristata and A. patagoniensis ( Heard & Manning 1997) that occur along the Brazilian coast ( Melo 1996). This species was previously referred as Pinnixa aidae ( Melo 1996, 1998; Bezerra et al. 2006). Several specimens collected and morphologically identified as A. cristata were confirmed as A. aidae using molecular sequences comparison and according to Palacios-Theil & Felder (2020), A. cristata is restrict to north hemisphere (Gulf of Mexico and U.S. Atlantic coasts). Sequences accession number (GenBank): CCDB 6018—16S ( MT849290 View Materials ) (present study), COI ( JX839528 View Materials ) (Ocampo et al. 2013).
