Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (North Carolina, Gulf of Mexico), Antilles, Venezuela, and Brazil (Fernando de Noronha, Abrolhos, Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Sergipe, Bahia, São Paulo, Santa Catarina) ( Wagner 1990; Melo 1996; Mantelatto et al. 2004b; Young & Serejo 2005; Almeida et al. 2007b; Alves et al. 2008; Felder et al. 2009; Pachelle et al. 2016; Mendonça et al. 2019).

Remarks. Previous records on the coast of São Paulo include Ubatuba ( Mantelatto et al. 2004b; Alves et al. 2012b, 2013b; Assugeni et al. 2017), Ilha Vitória ( Alves et al. 2012a), and Laje de Santos, Santos ( Assugeni et al. 2017) lacking the specific collecting point. This species was recorded in Brazil as Mithrax forceps (see Coelho et al. 2008 for references).
